##EFCODE##I've read this guy (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AprR4uVArN1BawQ9HflomdJDubYF?slug=cl-askthescout091906&prov=yhoo&type=lgns) the last couple of weeks. I guess it's possible he's just talking out his ass, but he sure makes it sound sharp...
Forinstance, what impact would even a gifted rookie have on the fact that the Saints suck?
What's your early impression of how the New Orleans Saints are using Reggie Bush?
Because the Saints are doing an outstanding job of varying their formations with Bush, he is having a huge impact on how teams play them defensively, even when he never touches the ball. The Saints have used him in the backfield with Deuce McAllister, by himself, in motion to the slot and as a wide receiver.
The dilemma in preparing for Bush defensively is how to prepare your personnel groupings. It's very difficult to match up. If you go small (removing linebackers in favor of nickel and dime backs), you become vulnerable against the run. If you play out of your base front, you have problems covering Bush. And, with a bright quarterback like Drew Brees, who does a nice job of getting his team into the right formation and play, it has been a very successful combination.
Finally, there is a play breakdown factor with Bush. For example, against the Cleveland Browns, the Saints had a third and 4 in the third quarter. A miscommunication on a handoff to McAllister had Brees ready to eat the ball for a loss, but he spotted Bush to his right running a flare route to influence what was supposed to be a run play. Instead of eating the ball, Brees executes what amounts to a push pass to an alert and adjusting Bush, who beat three Browns defenders with a good angle to the sideline and picked up the first down.
It's always interesting when people really know what they're talking about...it's fucking work for us fakers....
