Hahah!! I know a mathematician who is an ex-(by 30 years)Canadian. And he swears he doesn't say 'oot' or 'aboot' too. But he does!!

Most Canadians think if they sound more articulate and less accented than a Newfie(i.e.:if they sound like a Minnesotan, for example), they have no accent. But they do.

All four of my grandparents moved to California from the South during the Depression. I don't see anything wrong with speech patterns that contain elements that identify ones' cultural or geographic origins.
